The Milibach stream in Brienz BE is to be moved out of the village. This is the proposal of the project team that presented the protection concept for the municipality in the Bernese Oberland on Tuesday evening.
The Milibach burst its banks in August following heavy rainfall. Boulders and wood filled the debris collector within a short space of time. A mudslide then devastated parts of the village. Now the course of the stream below the debris collector is to be moved to the west.
At least one residential building would have to give way for this. Farmers will also have to cede agricultural land. Talks are currently underway with the landowners. How those affected can be compensated is being clarified together with the federal government and canton.
It is still unclear when the damaged houses in the so-called "change village" can be rebuilt. Clarity should prevail in spring.
