At least four people have died in Honduras and Nicaragua as a result of tropical storm "Sara". More than 120,000 people were left homeless or suffered damage to their homes over the weekend, the authorities announced on Monday.

According to the US National Hurricane Center, "Sara" weakened to a tropical depression as it passed over Belize on Sunday and dissipated as it moved across the western Yucatan Peninsula.

One of the two fatalities in Honduras, the worst affected country, was a three-year-old boy who was swept away by a raging river on Sunday, according to the authorities. More than 200 houses were destroyed and around 3200 damaged in the Central American country. Almost 1800 communities were cut off from the outside world due to flooding, collapsed bridges and destroyed roads.

Two fatalities were also reported in Nicaragua. According to the authorities, almost 1,800 houses were flooded and around 5,000 people were affected. In Costa Rica, where at least six people had died in floods two weeks earlier, the authorities reported more than 50 landslides. Around 5000 people are in need of help.
