In future, members of the Swiss Armed Forces will only receive the dress uniform if they need this so-called "Tenü A" for representational purposes. This refers to members of the military band, for example. This will save the army up to 55 million francs by 2035.

The army intends to use the funds thus freed up to expand its defense capabilities, as announced by the Department of Defense (DDPS) on Tuesday. The distribution of the basic uniform to all members of the armed forces currently leads to an annual recurring equipment and renewal requirement of CHF 5.2 million.
The Defense Group, which is part of the DDPS, also wants to save up to three percent in personnel costs by 2030 - a maximum of around 210 million francs. This is to be achieved by reducing the number of posts through ordinary retirements. This means, said army spokesman Stefan Hofer on request, that not all retirements will be replaced. No redundancies are planned.
The Defense Group cites parliamentary decisions to reduce operating expenditure as the reason for the cost-cutting measures. The current security policy situation in Europe has also been taken into account. It is constantly examining further measures to reduce operating costs.
Just under a month ago, it decided to halve the number of air force demonstrations and exhibitions in order to save money. The planning for the savings in personnel costs in the year that has just begun has been completed, the statement continues.
The implementation of the savings in subsequent years is still to be coordinated with the Federal Council's decisions regarding the tasks and subsidy review of the Confederation.
