After a strong earthquake in the sea in the south of the Philippines, the authorities have given the all-clear. According to the local earthquake monitoring station Phivolcs, no major damage is expected. The US earthquake observatory USGS spoke of a magnitude of 7.1, while the German Geo Research Center determined a magnitude of 6.5.

As the quake occurred at a great depth of around 630 kilometers, there was no tsunami warning. USGS located the center of the quake at a distance of just under 106 kilometers from the coast of Mindanao. The Philippines are located on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, which is known for its high seismic activity.
