As the vacations have begun in some cantons, traffic is once again backing up in front of the Gotthard: heading south, there are currently 8 kilometers of traffic jams on Monday.

Slowly but steadily: the traffic jam in front of the Gotthard tunnel heading south is getting smaller, at 3 pm it is still 8 kilometers. Still 1 hour and 19 minutes of lost time.

On Monday, July 8, 2024, traffic is still backed up in front of the north portal of the Gotthard road tunnel. There are currently 10 kilometers of congestion due to overloading, with a time loss of approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Vacation and weekend traffic caused a traffic jam in front of the north portal of the Gotthard road tunnel on Saturday.

Now the traffic jam will probably be over soon. Shortly after 5 p.m. there are only 2 kilometers left and a time loss of about 20 minutes.

The traffic jam is slowly easing. At 4.20 p.m. there are only six kilometers left and about an hour's wait.

Shortly after 3 p.m. there are still 10 kilometers of traffic jam in front of the Gotthard tunnel heading south. The traffic service speaks of a waiting time of one hour and 40 minutes.

Shortly after eight o'clock in the morning, the column between Erstfeld and Göschenen in the canton of Uri reached a length of up to 13 kilometers.

According to the TCS traffic service on X, the waiting time was around two hours and 10 minutes.

In the opposite direction, there is a traffic jam of 4 kilometers.

Yesterday, Friday, there were already traffic jams at both portals of the Gotthard tunnel. Towards evening, the length of the traffic jams on both sides of the Gotthard decreased again.

Switzerland's second important north-south link, the San Bernardino route, was reopened to traffic on Friday morning, albeit with limited capacity. The national road had been closed for two weeks following storms in the southern Graubünden valley of Misox.
