The most recent number of missing persons was 93. The provisional official death toll remains at 219. 211 bodies have so far been recovered in Valencia alone, with the remaining eight in the neighboring regions of Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia.
Meanwhile, Spain is being hit by further storms. After it had already rained heavily on Mallorca and elsewhere on Thursday, heavy rainfall caused flooding in Catalonia on Friday night. In the fishing and artists' village of Cadaqués on the Costa Brava, which is popular with holidaymakers, the water swept around 30 vehicles into the river, according to Mayor Pia Serinyana Torrents.
Many of these vehicles came to a standstill in the river in front of a bridge, piled up next to each other, reported the newspaper "La Vanguardia" and other media. Meanwhile, the Spanish weather service Aemet did not issue a storm warning for Friday.
In Valencia, a feverish search continues for those people who are still considered missing. However, the regional authorities emphasized that 40 of the recovered bodies had not yet been identified. It is feared that some of the bodies may have been washed into the Mediterranean.
In Valencia on Tuesday last week, there was as much rain in a few hours in some places as there usually is in a year. Meanwhile, the sun has been shining in the disaster area for days. The clean-up work is in full swing. But some of the 75 affected villages are still covered in mud. Numerous buildings are still inaccessible or difficult to access, as some entrances are still blocked by wrecked cars and household goods.
