Politics 20 rockets from Gaza - Israel fires back

According to the Israeli army, around 20 rockets have been fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip. Some were intercepted by the missile defense, others hit open areas. There were no casualties, the army emphasized.

There was an air raid alert in towns near the border with the Gaza Strip and people had to rush to shelters within minutes.

Israeli media spoke of one of the most violent attacks for some time. The launch sites of the rockets had come under fire from Israeli artillery, the army announced. The reports could not initially be independently verified.

The Gaza war was triggered by the unprecedented massacre of more than 1,200 people killed by terrorists from Hamas and other groups in Israel on October 7 last year. In the first few months, Israel was attacked with thousands of rockets from the Gaza Strip, including more distant targets such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Since the Israeli army occupied large parts of the Gaza Strip and destroyed hundreds of rocket launching pads, such attacks have become rather rare. The last time there was a rocket alert in Tel Aviv was weeks ago.
