A 19-year-old German woman fell to her death in a hiking accident in Linthal in the canton of Glarus on Saturday afternoon. Her companion was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The two 19-year-old women came off the hiking trail at around 3.30 pm, as reported by the Glarus cantonal police on Sunday. For reasons as yet unexplained, the two women fell around 50 to 80 meters into the rough terrain. One woman suffered fatal injuries. Her companion suffered serious injuries and was taken to Chur Cantonal Hospital by Rega.

The circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the public prosecutor's office of the Canton of Glarus in collaboration with the police.
