Vacation and weekend traffic caused a traffic jam at the Gotthard road tunnel on Saturday. Shortly before midday, the traffic jam between Erstfeld and Göschenen in the canton of Uri reached a length of 12 kilometers.

According to the TCS traffic service on X, the time lost before the north portal amounted to two hours. In the south, traffic was backed up for one kilometer between Quinto and Airolo TI, resulting in a time loss of 10 minutes, according to the report.

Traffic jams had already occurred at both portals of the Gotthard tunnel on Friday. Towards evening, the length of the traffic jams on both sides of the Gotthard decreased again.

Switzerland's second important north-south link, the San Bernardino route, was reopened to traffic on Friday morning, albeit with limited capacity. The national road had been closed for two weeks following storms in the southern Graubünden valley of Misox.
