Champions YB won the key match in Basel 2:1 thanks to two goals from Christian Fassnacht (1st/78th). Philip Otele equalized for the hosts in the meantime (67th). The win brings the Bernese side to within three points of Basel and only five points behind leaders Servette.
Lugano are also back in the championship race. The Ticino side halted their negative run with a nail-biting 2:1 win against bottom club Winterthur and moved up to third place. Georgios Koutsias scored twice for Lugano, while Loïc Lüthi reduced the deficit for Winterthur shortly before the end.
Grasshoppers had to settle for a point in their home game against Sion despite numerous chances, with Nikolas Muci securing the point with his goal in stoppage time to make it 1-1. The visitors had taken the lead through Benjamin Kololli in first-half stoppage time.
On Saturday, Servette were surprisingly beaten by Yverdon in front of their home crowd (2:3). FC Luzern lost by the same scoreline in Zurich. Lausanne won 2-0 at St. Gallen and are now directly ahead of the eastern Swiss below the line that separates the league after 33 matchdays in the Championship and Relegation Group.
The top eight teams are separated by just nine points.
