Young Boys also lose their third game in the current Champions League. Coach Joël Magnin's team conceded the decisive 0:1 against Inter Milan in the 92nd minute.

YB's first point in the current Champions League campaign after the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa and the 5-0 loss at FC Barcelona would not have been stolen, although Inter improved in the second half after a previously uninspiring performance. The Bernese showed a self-sacrificing performance. However, the visitors scored in stoppage time thanks to substitute Marcus Thuram. In the 48th minute, YB goalkeeper David von Ballmoos saved a well-taken penalty from Austrian Marko Arnautovic and then also the follow-up shot from Denzel Dumfries.

The home team also had chances. They were unlucky in the 60th minute when Joel Monteiro missed the post with a shot from the edge of the box. In the 84th minute, a shot from Darian Males narrowly missed the target. As a result, Inter's Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer did not concede a goal in his third Champions League game of the season.

Inter Milan will host Juventus Turin in Serie A on Sunday in a clash between second and third place. It therefore came as no surprise that coach Simone Inzaghi rested several players at the start. Compared to the previous match against AS Roma, he made seven changes to the starting eleven. For example, last year's top scorer in Serie A, Lautaro Martinez, was on the substitutes' bench until the 61st minute. The in-form Thuram was only substituted in the 75th minute. Playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu was among those missing through injury.

Surprisingly, YB coach Joël Magnin also fielded just four players from Sunday's match against Luzern (2-1), which was only the Swiss champions' second Super League win of the season. The line-ups say a lot about the current priorities of the two teams, although Magnin understandably denied this.

However, Bern's "second" line-up was up to the task. Although the game initially breezed along, the hosts soon realized that the Italians were not 100 per cent focused and appeared somewhat listless. YB became more courageous and took the crowd with them. In the 22nd and 25th minutes, Alan Virginius and Lukasz Lakomy respectively headed over from a promising position in the penalty area after a cross from Jaouen Hadjam, but Benjamin Pavard and Yann Bisseck saved.

The latter missed Inter's best chance of the first half in the 31st minute, with von Ballmoos also making a miraculous save in this situation. The fact that Sommer had 41 touches of the ball in the first 45 minutes shows how Milan largely performed in the first half. In any case, Inzaghi was much more active on the touchline than his players before the break.

YB's next opponent in the Champions League will be the Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen on November 6. Then it should work out with the first goal for the Bernese in the premier class.
