St. Gallen and Sion continue their winless streak. The two teams drew 1:1.
FC St. Gallen have been waiting almost six weeks for their next win. In the championship and European Cup, they have recently suffered four defeats and four draws. The fact that such a streak is also a matter of the head was shown in the two games this week in their own stadium. On Wednesday against Winterthur (2:2), the 2:1 lead lasted five minutes; against Sion, St. Gallen stopped playing after going 1:0 up and promptly conceded the equalizer a quarter of an hour after Chadrac Akolo's goal.
The 1:1 was unfortunate from the hosts' point of view. The ball hit Mihailo Stevanovic's arm in his own penalty area, but it was also stretched far into the air. The Serbian had only been substituted shortly beforehand, partly because coach Enrico Maassen had realized that his team needed fresh impetus after going 1-0 down. The understandable plan went wrong and Ali Kabacalman scored safely from the penalty spot to make it 1:1.
If three points had been awarded for the best move of the game, they would have gone to FCSG. The team from eastern Switzerland, once again supported magnificently by their fans, combined beautifully via Lukas Görtler and Akolo to make it 1-0 after Kevin Csoboth had won the ball deep in the Sion half of the pitch. Csoboth had already come on after seven minutes for the injured Felix Mambimbi,
St. Gallen's next chances of victory in the Conference League come on Thursday away against Northern Ireland's Larne and next Sunday at home against Luzern for Sion, who are without a win in nine Super League games.
