India is bidding to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has submitted a corresponding letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), reported the newspaper "India Today" and other media in the world's most populous country, citing informed sources. The "Letter of Intent" had already been sent on October 1.

The expression of interest to negotiate a bid with the IOC also refers to the organization of the Paralympic Games. According to reports, this is the first time that India has taken such a step. Both sides have already had an informal dialog about a possible bid. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi had repeatedly expressed his desire for the country to host the Olympic Games.

Ahmedabad, a city of millions in the western state of Gujarat, is considered a possible candidate city. In September, however, the newspaper "The New Indian Express" reported that the national association had not informed the IOC of any specific region that could be considered as a host. The Summer Games will be held in Los Angeles in four years' time, while Brisbane in Australia has been selected as the host city for 2032.
