The favorites prevailed in League A of the Nations League on Monday evening. Germany, Italy and France won their games, as did Hungary.
Germany put in a dominant performance in their clash against rivals the Netherlands - and seemingly rewarded themselves early on. However, Jamie Leweling's goal in the 2nd minute was disallowed due to a close offside call. However, the VfB Stuttgart player, who was making his national team debut in the Munich Arena, was to become the hero of the evening. After just over an hour, the 23-year-old scored the only winning goal for Julian Nagelsmann's side, who are five points clear at the top of the table, with a powerful shot. Oliver Baumann, who also made his international debut in goal, made a strong save late on to secure the three points.
In the second Group 3 match, Hungary beat Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 thanks to two goals from Dominik Szoboszlai.
In Group 2, Italy and France fought a duel for the group win. The Squadra Azzurra had no trouble against Israel and won 4:1, with captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo scoring two goals. The French were also able to rely on a double scorer in their 2:1 win against Belgium. Randal Kolo Muani scored first from the penalty spot, then in the second half with a well-placed header. The fact that captain Aurélien Tchouaméni had to leave the field with just under a quarter of an hour to go did not come back to haunt the Equipe tricolore. The two sides will face off in Milan in mid-November at the end of the group stage.
