SC Freiburg embarrasses itself in the round of 16 of the German Cup. The Bundesliga club was deservedly defeated 1:3 by Arminia Bielefeld from the 3rd division.
As in the previous year, Freiburg failed against a lower league team. Last season, second-division team Paderborn meant the end of the line in the 2nd round; now the third-placed team in the 3rd division was too strong. After Michael Gregoritsch scored the final goal (63'), the favorites had a glimpse of hope. Louis Oppie snuffed them out ten minutes from time. Florent Muslija had missed miserably from the spot for Freiburg after around a quarter of an hour.
Stuttgart had no problems with Jahn Regensburg. The Bundesliga side, with Fabian Rieder starting and Leonidas Stergiou on the bench for 90 minutes, won 3-0 at the bottom of the 2nd division.
