Instead of the planned public race, a memorial ride for Muriel Furrer, who died in a crash, took place early on Sunday morning at the World Cycling Championships in Zurich.

Around 1500 cycling enthusiasts gathered at 7 a.m. in front of the finish arch on Sechseläutenplatz for this "Memorial Ride". Among them were David Lappartient, President of the UCI, as well as Swiss professional cyclists who paid tribute to their deceased teammate.

After a minute's silence, the field set off at a leisurely pace along the route, which also passed the site of the accident in the forest above Küsnacht. For many, the memorial ride ended at the Wasserkirche. A central place of mourning was set up there. A Swiss flag and a picture of the deceased are attached to a tree. Candles are lit in front of it and mourners have laid flowers.
