Former Lucerne player Christian Gentner has been appointed sporting director at VfB Stuttgart, taking on a key role at the club.

Christian Gentner, who ended his active career at FC Luzern in 2023, has been promoted to sporting director at Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. The club announced this decision on Tuesday. Gentner, who won the German championship twice in his career, was previously head of the licensed player department.

With his new position, Gentner takes on a central role at the club, particularly in deciding the future of Fabian Rieder. The Swiss international is currently on loan from Stade Rennes until the end of the season. Gentner will be instrumental in determining whether the option to buy Rieder is activated.

Gentner's promotion is a significant step for VfB Stuttgart, as he now bears the main responsibility for important personnel decisions. His experience and knowledge from his active time as a player should benefit the club in his new role.
