St. Gallen and Basel share the points in the 17th round of the Super League. The visitors were held to a 1-1 draw in eastern Switzerland, but missed out on a return to the top of the table.

After losing their last two games in eastern Switzerland, FC Basel at least managed to pick up a point. This was not to be expected after 72 minutes. The visiting fans cheered first. Their team scored the supposed equalizer after a wonderful counter-attack by Anton Kade. As Bénie Traoré hit Jordi Quintilla's ankle with an open sole after his pass to the goalscorer, referee Lionel Tschudi consulted the video images. He rescinded the goal and showed Traoré the red card. Instead of going for the winner in the final quarter of an hour with the equalizer behind them, Basel suddenly found themselves a man down on the pitch.
But even when short-handed, the visitors did not give up. And they actually managed to score a deserved equalizer. As in the Cup on Wednesday, it was Anton Kade who equalized shortly before the end. As against Sion, the German scored with a powerful shot from distance.
The draw was the right result given the two contrasting halves. The first half clearly belonged to St. Gallen, who deservedly took the lead through Albert Vallci after a long throw-in.
After the break, the visitors took control of the game but were unable to score for a long time despite numerous chances. And when the ball finally did find its way into the net, the goal was rightly disallowed as Kevin Carlos was offside when Traoré finished and obstructed Zigi.
FC Basel missed out on a return to the top of the table with their second draw in a row and are now one point behind FC Lugano.
