Atletico Madrid are currently unstoppable. Coach Diego Simeone's team won the top-of-the-table clash at FC Barcelona 2:1 in LaLiga and celebrated their twelfth win in a row in all competitions.
Barcelona clearly put their stamp on the game, but the hosts were unable to do more than make it 1-0 through Pedri (30'). That took its revenge. After Rodrigo de Paul had equalized for Atletico to make it 1-1, Alexander Sorloth completed a counter-attack in the 96th minute to make it 2-1. It was the in-form Norwegian's seventh goal in the last nine league games.
Atletico replaced Barcelona as leaders thanks to the win, are now three points ahead of the Catalans and have only played one game less. Real Madrid can also overtake Barcelona in the table with a home win against Sevilla FC on Sunday.
Barcelona's German coach Hansi Flick now has a challenge on his hands. After a very good start to the season, things have not gone according to plan in the championship of late. The team has picked up just five points in its last seven games. That is a far cry from the club's expectations.
