Italy's flag bearer loses wedding ring

The flag bearer of the Italian Olympic team, Gianmarco Tamberi, lost his wedding ring in the Seine during the opening ceremony. The high jumper was one of the wildest celebrating athletes on the Italian delegation's boat. In all the hustle and bustle and heavy rain, however, his wedding ring slipped off his finger and fell into the water. The 2021 Olympic champion later apologized to his wife Chiara Bontempi. "I'm sorry, my love, I'm so sorry." However, Tamberi was also able to take some positives from the loss: "May it be a good omen to return home with a bigger gold."

British gourmets

Paris may be considered the Olympus of fine dining. But British athletes are clearly not impressed by the French food in the Olympic village. "The athletes are served raw meat," complained Andy Anson, head of the British Olympic Association, in the newspaper "The Times", possibly unaware of the French preference for tartare and bloody steaks. There were also not enough eggs and chicken, Anson complained. British media reported that some British athletes were already buying takeaway food elsewhere. An additional British chef was also on duty to cater for the British team.

Watch out, thieves!

Even celebrities are not immune to pickpockets, as Brazilian football legend Zico discovered in Paris. According to the 71-year-old, a bag with valuable contents was stolen from him on the sidelines of the Olympic Games. Zico, who is in Paris at the invitation of the Brazilian Olympic team, has filed a corresponding complaint, the Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed. According to a report in the newspaper "Le Parisien", the briefcase was stolen from him in a cab. The fraudsters are said to have been two people. While one of the thieves distracted the driver, the second is said to have stolen the bag through an open window.

240,000 condoms for Olympic love

The Olympic Games in the city of love - a tingling affair. The French contraceptive manufacturer, which was commissioned to supply the athletes' village with the appropriate products, agrees. No fewer than 240,000 condoms and other contraceptives were provided to the athletes in Paris. If they are not needed, they are also suitable as special souvenirs. The condoms, which are mainly produced in Malaysia and packaged in Alsace, contain logos with prevention messages as well as six pictures of the Olympic mascot. "Only the first three athletes win medals, but all participants are happy to take a souvenir with them," explained a spokesperson.
