There is no consensus on visitor taxes in the 80 municipalities with the highest visitor numbers in Switzerland. Arosa GR does not levy a tax, while Saas Fee VS and Montreux charge their guests up to seven francs per night per person. They therefore charge the highest visitor's tax in the country.
Gradations within a resort
In addition to Arosa, Andermatt UR, Celerina/Schlarigna GR, Engelberg OW, Sils im Engadin GR and Spreitenbach AG do not charge guest taxes or charge them at a flat rate, as the online comparison service Comparis.ch announced in a press release on Tuesday.
It is not only the visitor's tax that differs depending on the location. There can be gradations within a location, so that a higher visitor's tax is payable for an overnight stay in a four-star hotel than in a vacation apartment. According to Comparis.ch, the taxes can also vary considerably depending on the canton or region.
