- Austrian construction tycoon Richard Lugner died last weekend at the age of 91.
- He leaves behind a huge empire. The dazzling impresario's fortune is estimated at 250 million euros.
- The big question is: who will inherit how much? The distribution could lead to a family dispute that could last for years.
Austrian construction impresario Richard Lugner closed his eyes for good last weekend. The dazzling entrepreneur was 91 years old.
He leaves behind a huge empire and a gigantic inheritance. But which heir or heiress will get how much of Lugner's cake? The distribution is difficult and could degenerate into a family dispute that could quickly last for years.
Because there is a lot at stake: Lugner's fortune is estimated at 250 million euros. The lion's share is held in a private foundation managed by his sons Alexander (61) and Andreas Lugner (58), according to Bild.de. The foundation structure consisting of companies, real estate, money and investments is complex.
But according to Lugner himself, he also had debts from loans that were tied up in his current investments - amounting to 40 million euros.
Lugner City shopping center is the main source of income
The private foundation's largest source of money comes from Lugner's Lugner City shopping center in Vienna, which opened in 1990.
Lugner's daughter Jacqueline (30) is part of the management team, writes "Bild.de". Jacqueline - like her brothers Alexander and Andreas - is considered the main heir. But there are more heirs who could get something from the millions. Lugner's illegitimate daughter Nadin Jeannine Cutter (39), who lives in the USA, is also entitled to inherit.
Lugner has four children and only married again in the summer. Simone Lugner (42) is the name of the Austrian entrepreneur's sixth wife. During a heart operation this July, Lugner redrafted his written will. The reason: he is now a married man and his wife Simone should also be financially secure.
The row over Lugner's millions is inevitable. A close confidante tells "Bild.de": "There will be a huge tussle over the inheritance. Who will have the right to live in the villa? Who will get what from the foundations? The real estate is not without its problems either. Christina Lugner will fight tooth and nail to ensure that Jacqueline, her daughter with Richard, gets as much as possible."
Disputes over family inheritance are not uncommon. Especially when a lot of money is at stake. The current example of mountaineer Reinhold Messner and his children shows this. A furious inheritance dispute is currently simmering.
