When it comes to Christmas presents, Mr. and Mrs. Swiss like to go for perennial favourites. And yet sometimes an exotic gift like a stoner lighter ends up under the tree.
No time? blue News summarizes for you
- Technical gadgets are among the most popular Christmas gifts in Switzerland.
- The biggest winner is Apple. Several products make it into the top 10 most wanted devices.
- In addition to gadgets, Dubai chocolate is also likely to be under some Christmas trees this year.
Every year the Christ child comes again. And for some time now, he has been bringing bags filled to the brim with technical devices for Christmas. Whether cell phones, headphones or games consoles - Christmas without gadgets has become almost unimaginable.
This is also the result of a survey at Digitec Galaxus. Based on customer search behavior in November before Black Friday, six gadgets made it into the top 10 of the ranking. The big winner: Apple. The iPhone is represented in the wish list, as are Airpods, the iPad and the Apple Watch.
The gadgets are rounded off by the two games consoles Playstation 5 and the Nintendo Switch. No big surprise so far, as Communications Manager Manuel Wenk also notes: "These products have been at the top of the bestseller lists for years." In the previous year, however, game consoles performed slightly better, which may have been due to strong-selling games such as Pokémon "Crimson" and "Purple".
What hypes and advertising can trigger
In addition to Lego and gadgets, every now and then a surprise product makes it into the top sales lists. This year, we can assume that Dubai Chocolate will be under many Christmas trees. No other sweet is currently so on-trend. Even the ordinary chocolate dancing cones will not be able to stop the triumphal march.
Last Christmas, the outlier was even more exotic. Under the cryptic name "Bic J38", a lighter became a box office hit. The main reason for this was a successful marketing campaign in which home decoration legend Martha Stewart promoted the product together with rapper and stoner icon Snoop Dogg. Presumably, many candles were actually lit as a result. But probably not only.
How to weather the storm
The big online retailers will still have a lot to do in the coming weeks. Black Friday was the starting signal. "For us, this is the day with the highest turnover of the year - and the pre-Christmas period is the season with the highest turnover," says Manuel Wenk.
It is therefore surprising that there are almost never any supply bottlenecks at this time of year. Good preparation is the be-all and end-all here. "Around 1,100 employees are currently working in our warehouse in Wohlen to hand over the ordered products to our shipping partners as quickly as possible. We are already hiring new temporary staff weeks before the busy Christmas period in order to be prepared for the rush."
