No time? blue News summarizes for you

  • "Flightright" has rated the 20 largest European airlines in terms of punctuality, compensation behavior and customer satisfaction.
  • In the overall assessment, British Airways and Lufthansa come off worst, with Swiss Airlines in the middle of the field.
  • Turkish Airlines, Transavia France and Iberia scored well for reliability and punctuality.
  • No airline achieved more than 3 points for customer satisfaction. Austrian and Condor scored best.

The consumer portal "Flightright" took a close look at the 20 largest European airlines in the categories of reliability, payment behavior for compensation and customer satisfaction and published their overall ratings in the "Flightright Index 2024".

The overall rating is based on the average of the three categories. The renowned airlines British Airways and Lufthansa performed particularly poorly. Swiss Air landed in the middle of the field in 9th place, while EasyJet was three ranks higher in 12th place.

101 days until payment

The payment behavior category is particularly striking: In the event of flight delays or cancellations, compensation is due, which "Flightright" claims on behalf of its customers.

Airlines that pay quickly receive more points in the ranking - a maximum of five. Turkish Airlines landed in last place here with just 1 point, as compensation claims took an average of 101 days or longer.

Lufthansa and British Airways fared little better with 2 points. In contrast, Transavia France, Austrian, Air France and Discover Airlines settled compensation claims within 15 to 30 days and received 4 points for this.

Delay and cancellation figures

In the area of reliability, based on the number of delays and cancelations, Turkish Airlines scored 4.5 out of a possible 5 points, as did Transavia France and Spain's Iberia.

Bringing up the rear in this category are the Italian Air Dolomiti, the German Lufthansa, British Airways and the Dutch KLM.

Finally, Flightright conducted a survey among its thousands of customers to assess their satisfaction with the airlines.

In particular, the consumer portal wanted to examine the availability of customer service, information policy and support for passengers in the event of flight problems.

No airline achieved 3 points

The result is sobering: none of the 20 airlines assessed scored even 3 points. Austrian achieved the best overall result with 2.74 points, while the Hungarian airline Wizz Air and the Spanish low-cost airline Vueling received the worst ratings.

The "Flightright Index 2024" shows which airlines often disappoint their customers. It is therefore worthwhile for travelers to take a closer look at the results to avoid unpleasant surprises.
