Three ski resorts, three mountains of character: Amden, Splügen and Wildhaus. These three winter sports resorts prove that having as many kilometers of slopes as possible is not everything. A visit on site.
Peaks, peaks, nothing but peaks - Switzerland makes the hearts of winter sports enthusiasts beat faster. But not only when it comes to the largest possible ski resorts with endless kilometers of slopes.
blue News visited three small ski resorts that promise peace and serenity:
If you travel by car via Zurich to Graubünden, you will see the Amden sun terrace near Weesen, high above Lake Walen - with two small ski areas and plenty of views.
The Arvenbüel is an ideal area for beginners and connoisseurs, while the Mattstock side delights experienced skiers. But not all guests wear ski boots - the others go cross-country skiing, take a walk in the snow-covered forest or race down the slope on a sledge.
There are also plenty of views to enjoy on the Tanatzhöhi. 2140 meters above sea level, high above Splügen and the Rheinwald valley, winter is also in top form these weeks. Although there are "only" 30 kilometers of pistes, there is a black run down into the valley that has it all.
And if you're lucky, you might even bump into a celebrity when you go to buy cheese from Marian and Jürg Flükiger at the Splügen dairy after your sporting activity. George Clooney, who once owned a villa on Lake Como, has raved effusively about the area around the Splügen Pass.
The Toggenburg ski resort of Wildhaus opens up the slopes of the 1952-metre-high Gamserugg. Against the backdrop of the spectacular Churfirsten peaks, the area offers the right runs for beginners and experienced carvers alike.
In winter 2020/21, the new 6-seater family lift from Oberdorf to Freienalp was voted the best new ski facility. And for those who like to stay longer, we recommend the charming Friedegg Gasthaus B&B run by host Daniel Forrer. The 120-year-old shingle house blends the time-honored with the modern.
