His performance was full of energy, charm and humor: on Saturday evening, Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan accepted the award for his life's work on the Piazza Grande in Locarno.

He has been working in this business for 35 years, said a dazzlingly cheerful Shah Rukh Khan in front of 8000 spectators on the stage of the Piazza Grande in Locarno. In these three decades, he has played champions and superheroes, but also zeros, said the actor, dressed all in black.

Films do not necessarily have to be moral, continued Khan. It is more about expressing feelings. However, a person's life is hardly enough to express the emotional shades of all stages of life.

Khan even learned a few words of Italian for his performance in perhaps the most beautiful open-air cinema in the world: "Buonasera Signore e Signori", he called out to the audience. Some of the female fans on the edge of the piazza drowned out the presenter and the words of artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro, and shouts of "I love you" could also be heard.

"Extremely hot city"

Locarno is an "extremely hot city", said Khan. It was almost like his home in India. The food was excellent and he would like to learn Italian even better, the actor continued, and spontaneously translated the award sponsored by Ascona-Locarno Turismo for his career ("Pardo alla Carriera Ascona-Locarno Turismo") with a wink as "Award for the most awesome actor", which was met with thunderous applause.

For more than thirty years, actor Shah Rukh Khan has starred in over a hundred films, including musicals, crime films and historical dramas. He is said to have 3.5 billion fans around the world.
