Princess Anne has been slightly injured in an incident with a horse at her private country estate and is being treated in a hospital in the English city of Bristol.

The sister of King Charles suffered a concussion, according to Buckingham Palace. The 73-year-old was reportedly kicked by a horse while walking on the estate.

Queen Elizabeth's daughter is a horse fan. She took part in eventing at the 1976 Olympic Games. The palace made no official statement on the background to the incident on Sunday evening.

Husband accompanied Princess Anne to the clinic

"The King is being kept informed and joins the entire royal family in sending his warmest love and best wishes for a speedy recovery to the Princess," it said.

Anne is expected to make a full recovery.

"Her Royal Highness is recovering well, is in a comfortable condition and is being kept in hospital for further observation as a precaution," it said. Her husband Tim Laurence accompanied the Princess to the hospital.

Anne cancels for state reception

Anne represents the royal family at numerous events. All appointments for the coming week have been postponed, the palace also announced. She will also be unable to attend the state banquet for the Japanese imperial couple this Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred in the grounds of Gatcombe Park near Stroud in the west of England. In addition to Anne and her husband, their children Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips were also staying at the country estate.

Anne is another member of the royal family temporarily absent.

Charles' daughter-in-law Princess Kate, who is being treated for cancer, only recently appeared in public for the first time in almost six months. The King is also undergoing treatment for cancer.
