Peter Maffay has managed to overcome the distance to his son Yaris and build up a close relationship. The two are now connected not only by music, but also by a deeper understanding of each other.

Peter Maffay, known for his hits such as So bist du, has undergone a remarkable change in his private life in recent years. While his youngest daughter Anouk has already had a strong influence on his life, it is his relationship with his son Yaris that has undergone a special development. The 21-year-old, who comes from Maffay's relationship with Tanja Spengler, lived in Mallorca for a long time and was therefore physically separated from his father. But that changed when Yaris moved to Germany and the two began making music together.

"When I moved to Germany and we both made music together, that really connected us - especially on the first tour in 2022. I've never been so closely connected to my father. That was really nice," said Yaris in an interview. This shared experience strengthened the relationship between father and son and brought them closer together.

Tips for a career in music

Peter Maffay, who now wants to concentrate more on his family, has given his son some advice for his music career. Discipline and concentration are crucial in order to be successful in this profession. Yaris, who is full of ambition, is aware of the challenges: "He knows what he wants, these are good prerequisites and he knows that it will be a marathon and not a sprint," says Maffay.

Past distance overcome

The relationship between the two has improved significantly over the years. In the documentary Peter Maffay: Exclusive Insights into the Life of the Rock Star, Yaris spoke openly about his father's absence during his childhood. "My father was rarely there when a boy needs his father. As a child, you just think: Where's dad?" he confessed. But Yaris now has more understanding for the situation back then, and Peter Maffay is self-critical: "I'm incredibly glad that the time I missed out on spending with him, through my selfishness, through my vanity, through my ambition - that this situation has been corrected a little by the fact that we are now together," he said with relief.

The development of the relationship between Peter Maffay and his son Yaris shows that it is never too late to make up for lost time and build a close bond.
