How does a highly paid professional footballer live? Breel Embolo, Swiss international in the service of AS Monaco, revealed it to a camera crew from Germany. Fans have a clear opinion about the celebrity apartment tour on social media.

Millions in salary in his account - but always feels like he's on the move to the next club: Football stars from the big European leagues certainly don't lead an ordinary existence. But what exactly does it look like for a first division professional at home?

Breel Embolo has now given in to this certainly not a little voyeuristic request. The Swiss striker, who was recently eliminated with his national team in the European Championship quarter-finals against England, opened the door to his luxury apartment in the Principality of Monaco to a camera crew from the public youth channel funk. The report from the reporter series "Einfach Fussball" has recently been available on YouTube and is being clicked on, shared and commented on.

White walls as far as the eye can see

"We've only just moved in, so it's not completely finished yet," says the football star, who has been under contract with AS Monaco since 2022, apologizing for the rather sober interior. White walls can be seen as far as the eye can see. However, there are only a few pictures on the walls and hardly any decorations in the 250 square meters of space.

Except for a huge collage of mafia criminals from well-known Hollywood films such as "Scarface" and "Pulp Fiction". "I'm not the type for pictures, but we got this as a gift," says the professional, who is also well known in the Bundesliga. He was a striker for Schalke 04 and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

High rents, but no tax in the Principality of Monaco

Breel Embolo does not reveal what all this means. Just this much: the rents in the principality are significantly higher than elsewhere. "That can be a deterrent." One advantage, however, is that he doesn't pay taxes as a foreigner in Monaco: "Ultimately, it's the same as in Switzerland or Germany."

The kitchen is also very tidy - "not really my place", as the 27-year-old admits: "Mom cooks a lot, my girlfriend cooks a lot." However, there is little to suggest this. There is a hot-air fryer on the kitchen table, a Christmas present: "My mom and my girlfriend really wanted it. I can see it's not even being used."

A huge "second living room" next to the main one is also currently unused. "We don't know what to do with it." The large sneaker collection is located in the hallway, although he regularly gives away many pairs to Africa - Embolo was born in Cameroon.

"There are many, many people who don't have that luck"

The children's room with bunk beds for son and daughter is amazingly tidy. Many parents might rub their eyes in envy. "In the evening, you can sometimes see me telling a bedtime story or singing or dancing here," laughs Embolo, who continues his tour of the apartment. There's a room for drying laundry and a dressing room.

The guest room has an "unfortunately not so nice view" of the mountains of La Turbie. The panorama on the other side, from the bedroom and balcony, is more stunning. "Here you have a view of the sea. That's the greatest thing for me, to wake up every day and have beautiful weather. You can only be grateful," says Embolo. He appreciates this attitude to life more than material things: "Waking up, the sun, this view. There are many, many people who don't have that luck. That is priceless."

Incidentally, the Swiss goalkeeper's house tour goes down extremely well in the YouTube comments section. "Likeable" is the most frequently used word, and the footballer is even called "down-to-earth". One fan sums it up: "I don't begrudge him anything!"
