Mysterious Military music meets pop and hits at the Basel Tattoo 2024
The Basel Tattoo festival is focusing entirely on music in the current edition. And it does so with plenty of pomp and pathos, with little military drill, but with original cocktails of military music and pop.
On Friday evening, the Basel Tattoo once again brought around a thousand musicians and highland dancers from four continents to the Kaserne Basel arena for its premiere. There was little traditional marching music to be heard - apart from the rousing performances by the Massed Pipes and Drums with hundreds of bagpipers and drummers.
The formations from the USA, Singapore, Australia and Switzerland thrilled the audience in the not quite sold-out arena with some highly original potpourris of brass band sounds and pop. The Swiss Armed Forces Brass Band was particularly brilliant, whizzing through every conceivable style of music at furious speed.
The Basel Tattoo can be experienced on the Basel Kasernenareal until July 27.
