After a series of health challenges, Heinz Hoenig is optimistic about the future. The actor still has a lot planned and is fighting his way back to life.

Heinz Hoenig, known from "Das Boot", has suffered a series of health setbacks in recent months. After his appearance in the jungle camp, he had to go into hospital, where he underwent surgery on his oesophagus. He was put into an induced coma and resuscitated twice. As he does not have health insurance, his wife Annika launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs.

Return to life

Heinz spoke about his experiences in the RTL program "Menschen, Bilder, Emotionen". Despite the challenges, he has no regrets about taking part in the jungle camp. When he was hospitalized and didn't know what was wrong with him, he found courage in himself. His wife Annika was very worried about him and feared for his life. Heinz experienced a moment that he describes as supernatural: He felt as if he was on the way to his deceased mother, but she sent him back to life.

Not yet at his destination

Heinz Hoenig is now back home, but has not yet fully recovered. He emphasizes how important his family is to him and that he still has a lot planned. He is due to have another operation on his aorta, but the lack of health insurance is a financial hurdle. A cost estimate from Leipzig amounts to 90,000 euros, which is a heavy burden on the family. In her podcast "24 - (K)ein Sommer in Berlin", Annika spoke about the financial challenges they have to overcome. Heinz and his family still have a long way to go.
