The 31st European Heritage Days will be highlighting the topic of networking at more than 400 events in Switzerland this weekend. At historical sites, they will explore the question of how networks shape cultural heritage.

The events on Saturday and Sunday include free guided tours, exhibitions and workshops, as announced in advance by the National Heritage Information Point (Nike) as coordinator. The influences of other times and places on the cultural heritage can be discovered.

People have been exchanging goods and passing on knowledge for thousands of years - be it in bronze casting, wine transportation, silk or linen processing or construction. In more recent times, smugglers sneaked coffee and cigarettes over the mountain passes. The Heritage Days show visible and invisible networks along old paths to historic buildings and infrastructures.

The Heritage Days take place in 50 European countries. The Swiss program involves the specialist offices for monument preservation and archaeology, the Federal Office of Culture and numerous other institutions and private individuals involved in the field of cultural heritage. In Switzerland, they are under the patronage of Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider.
