Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz once again caused a stir with their Halloween costumes, but getting there was anything but pleasant, as Tom Kaulitz has now revealed.

Heidi Klum's Halloween parties are a highlight in New York, and her costumes get more elaborate and impressive every year.

Tom Kaulitz on the stresses and strains of the costumes

Heidi Klum and her husband Tom Kaulitz have been coordinating their outfits for the event for several years now. In their podcast 'Kaulitz Hills - Mustard from Hollywood', Tom recently shared his experiences with this year's costumes. Both dressed up as E.T., the famous alien from the Spielberg classic. Tom told his brother Bill that appearing on the red carpet involved considerable discomfort. "These costumes look harmless, but they were incredibly uncomfortable," confessed the Tokio Hotel musician.

Uncomfortable prostheses and skin problems

The large head of the costume caused Tom Kaulitz particular problems. "Small blisters formed under the skin, which turned into a big pimple," he explained. He also suffered "bruises all over his body". The prostheses did not allow the skin to breathe, which felt like suffocating. He and Heidi therefore kept their appearance on the red carpet as short as possible.

Challenges with the costume planning

Shortly before the event, Heidi Klum told People that the elaborate costumes are a risk every year because they can't be tested in advance. "There is no proper fitting... I can't try it on properly before I wear it. Because I never know if it's going to work until the day of," she explained. Comfort for her and Tom Kaulitz often falls by the wayside.
