Ivo Kummer is the new president of the online edition of Swiss film Filmo. This was announced by the Solothurn Film Festival on Wednesday. Until a year ago, Kummer was head of the Film Section at the Federal Office of Culture.

Kummer succeeds Thomas Geiser, who was President of Filmo until the end of 2024. Before joining the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), Kummer was a member of the management of the Solothurn Film Festival until 2011. The German studies graduate, media professional and film producer officially retired at the end of January 2024. He was born in Solothurn in 1959.

In his new role, Kummer is President of Filmo as well as the corresponding supporting association CH.Film. The association was founded in 2018 on the initiative of the Solothurn Film Festival. The aim of Filmo is to contribute to the visibility of Swiss film history and make it tangible. In other words, Filmo preserves the national film heritage from decay and now makes around 180 films available on the most important streaming platforms in all national languages.

Filmo brings together filmmakers, their audiences and institutions "that are committed to cultural heritage", Kummer is quoted as saying in the press release. "It will be a challenge to secure the association's financial prospects as well as to build up a broader sponsorship so that Filmo can be consolidated after the pioneering phase," Kummer continued.

Geiser, for his part, was president of the supporting organization of the Solothurn Film Festival from 2021 to summer 2023 and president of CH.Film from 2022 to the end of 2024. He will remain on the board. Kummer has been the new president since January 1.
