  • Tina Turner died in Küsnacht on May 24.
  • Mayor Markus Ernst talks about how deep the connection between the "Queen of Rock and Roll" and her adopted home was.
  • Turner had found happiness with her husband Erwin Bach on Lake Zurich.

Flowers and candles gather in front of her villa in Küsnacht : it is clear that Tina Turner left a deep mark on her adopted home.

Municipal president Markus Ernst also says this in an interview with blue News: "Tina was able to be a completely normal Küsnacht resident here. She had a clear presence in the village, but she was never besieged." Ernst sums up the relationship: "She enjoyed us and we enjoyed her."

In 1994, the rock icon moved into her villa on Lake Zurich, and in 2013 she even received a red passport. Now she has died here too.

"I've only ever seen Tina happy"

Ernst met Turner several times. "On the one hand, she was very approachable and natural," says the mayor. "You couldn't tell from her manner that she was a global superstar. But when you met her in person, you could sense that she was special."

He was particularly fascinated by her positive nature: "I've only ever seen Tina cheerful. If you know her life, you know that there were very difficult periods for her. But she always had a smile on her face."

He is now particularly sad for her husband Erwin Bach: "I know how close and harmonious their relationship was. You really feel for them."

The loss of the music legend has also made Ernst's community the talk of the town. The whole world is reporting on Küsnacht - as it did most recently when Turner Bach said "I do" on Lake Zurich in 2013. For Ernst, this is also something "very nice": "It shows Tina's connection with Küsnacht. With many superstars, you don't even know exactly where they live, but she has always been associated with us."

The fact that this connection could also be felt publicly was "all down to Tina": "She was able to spend what was probably the best part of her life here, lived in harmony with her husband Erwin and enjoyed her walks by the lake. It all meant a lot to her."
