The public broadcaster is deep in the red. According to the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung", program cuts are set to save Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) tens of millions of euros. The first victim of the cost-cutting measures will be show host Florian Silbereisen. From next year, no more programs with the singer and presenter are planned. Only shows that are also broadcast by ARD in the main program will still be produced. MDR has not yet officially confirmed the plans.
The Silbereisen programs "Schlager des Sommers", "Schlager des Jahres", "Schlagerchance" and "Schlager oder N!XX" are among those affected by the list of cuts. With the cuts, MDR wants to save around 13 million euros, reports the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung", citing internal documents from the broadcaster.
In addition to Florian Silbereisen, Ross Antony is also to be affected by the broadcaster's red pencil. The German-British pop singer was previously represented on the MDR program with the "Ross Antony Show" and "Musik für Sie", among others.
