Maja Brunner on her break-up "I couldn't stand the looks anymore"
Maja Brunner and country musician Philipp Mettler were together for eight years. Now the 72-year-old singer reveals in an interview why the couple broke up - but are still friends.

Together with Sarah-Jane, Frank Tender and Silvio d'Anza, the 72-year-old sings a wide range of songs - from traditional Christmas carols to folk, rock and musicals.
What may surprise some fans is that Maja Brunner is responsible for the musical direction of the "Lachner Wiehnachts-Zauber" together with her ex-boyfriend, Ländler musician Philipp Mettler.
"I felt old next to this young person"
Brunner and Mettler went through life together for eight years. "I've known Philipp and his parents since he was a child. They often went to my brother Carlo's gigs," says the singer in an interview with "Glückpost".
When asked how the ex-couple managed to remain friends after their separation 15 years ago, Brunner replies: "When Philipp was 25, we became a couple. Compared to some people around us, the 24-year age difference didn't bother us."
According to the singer, it only became an issue when she was approaching 60. "I could no longer stand the looks and comments from others," says Maja Brunner. She also realized that Philipp and she were in different phases of life.
She continues: "I felt old next to this young person, older than I do today. We then separated, even though the love was still there. There was no bad word between us, it was the circumstances that led to the separation."
Maja Brunner: "I like being alone"
Maja Brunner says that over the past 15 years, she never had any hope that they would get back together.
"That's exactly why I have a very good, friendly relationship with Philipp and his family today. I get to be part of family life and am like a third grandmother to his children."
Maja Brunner has been single since separating from Philipp Mettler 15 years ago. Nevertheless, the singer doesn't feel lonely. "I like being alone. I have my brother Carlo and friends who I can call if I want company."
For Maja Brunner, love has different faces. There is love for her brother, her niece and her friends, says the singer. "I would go through fire for them and their children."
Romantic love, on the other hand, is something else. The singer can no longer imagine it today. But she doesn't miss it either. "But sometimes things turn out differently than you think, and the word 'never' doesn't exist for me."
