Sinead O'Connor is dead. The Irish singer died unexpectedly on July 26, 2023 at the age of 56. The music and media world reacted with dismay - also because she died just 18 months after the death of her son Shane.

US songwriter Tori Amos writes: "Sinead was a force of nature. A brilliant performer whose talent we will not see again. She had great passion, a strong presence and a beautiful soul - yet she struggled with demons of her own. Find peace, dear Sinead, you will remain in our hearts forever."

Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams also bids farewell: "Rest in peace, Sinead O'Connor. I loved taking photos with you, playing gigs and talking to you. All my love goes out to your family."

'Big Bang Theory' actress Mayim Bialik has also spoken out, stating that O'Connor had a huge influence on her early life: "Her music changed the industry and her fearlessness left its mark on my teenage years. She was ahead of her time and left us too soon. Rest in peace, Sinead O'Connor."

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis also posted a tribute to the singer on Instagram. She recalls an anecdote from a visit to Ireland: "I heard her singing in an empty church. It was one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. She was also a victim of abuse as a child and campaigned for change in the world. She was a warrior and a rebel. It is so sad. Rest in peace, rest in strength."

Yusuf, formerly known as Cat Stevens, also sent a final message to Sinead O'Connor: "I am saddened to learn of the passing of Sister Shuhada Sadaqat. Sinead O'Connor was a tender soul, may God grant her eternal peace."

O'Connor seems to have had many friends who would not be associated with her. Rappers Flavor Flav and Ice-T also bid her farewell.

Flavor Flav writes: "I am heartbroken by the death of Sinead O'Connor. She was a great pillar of Public Enemy and a legend who has gone far too soon." And Ice-T also pays tribute to her, because she stood up for something that few people would do - "Rest in peace, Sinead".

Even UFC superstar Conor McGregor, himself also Irish, penned a few lines: "The world has lost an artist with the voice of an angel. Ireland has lost an iconic voice, one of our absolute best. And I have lost a friend. Sinead's music will live on and inspire. Rest in peace Sinead, you are now at home with your son, I am sure of it."
