Singer Ed Sheeran's huge tax bill has been revealed after he treated himself to a £10million gagging spree last year. He's happy to pay the tax, money doesn't mean that much to him.

  • Pop star Ed Sheeran earned almost 20 million francs last year.
  • In 2022, the 32-year-old paid around 170,000 francs a week in taxes.
  • He is happy to pay his taxes because money doesn't mean that much to him, he says. The chart-topper supports many charities with his income.

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran (32) collected a whopping 18.3 million pounds (the equivalent of around 20 million Swiss francs) in 2022, a salary increase of ten million pounds (almost 11 million Swiss francs) compared to 2021.

In total, he turned over 23.6 million pounds (around 25.9 million Swiss francs) last year. However, the Briton also handed over more than eight million pounds (around 8.7 million) in taxes to the tax office.

This is entirely in keeping with his promise to "help people" with his wealth. The musician from Suffolk makes a point of not reducing his tax burden, as "The Mirror " further reports.

«A large part of my money goes to charity.»

The document, which was sent last week to Companies House, the administrative authority under the Department of Trade and Industry, specifically contained 3.1 million pounds (around 3.4 million) in corporation tax and an invoice for five million pounds (5.4 million) for his touring company.

This means that Sheeran paid 158,917 pounds (around 170,000 Swiss francs) per week in tax last year. That is around five times the average British annual salary.

Ed Sheeran: "I've had enough"

When asked about his wealth, Ed Sheeran once said: "For me it's 'make a penny, spend a penny'. As soon as it comes in, it goes out. It doesn't mean that much to me. It's more important to me that my friends and family are doing well. A lot of my money goes to charities or children's hospitals near where I live. I have enough to feel good and the rest goes to help others."

The "Perfect" singer released his seventh album at the end of September, just four months after "Subtract" (May 2023), which addressed his grief and depression following his wife's health and the death of his friend Jamal Edwards. In stark contrast, "Autumn Variations" focuses on his friends.

Sheeran explained that he "wrote songs, some from their perspective, some from mine, to capture how they and I saw the world at the time".
