The past few months have repeatedly given Céline Dion's fans cause for concern.

First, the singer announced at the end of December 2022 that she was suffering from the autoimmune disease stiff person syndrome. Then, in May, the 55-year-old canceled her world tour due to health problems.

Now the singer's sister has given a health update. Céline is working closely with researchers, says Claudette Dion in an interview with "Le Journal de Montreal".

She added: "We can't find any medication that works, but it's important to have hope." Claudette Dion believes that her sister needs one thing above all else at the moment: rest.

Claudette Dion: "Performances are innate to Céline"

"When she performs, my sister always gives her all and wants to put on the best show. At some point, your heart and your body try to tell you something. It's important to listen to it," says Dion.

The family trusts that the singer will one day be able to perform on stage again. "Performing is innate to her, she is disciplined in every area of her life."

Céline Dion has a total of 13 siblings: Denise, Clément, Claudette, Liette, Michel, Louise, Jacques, Daniel, Ghislaine, Linda, Manon and the twins Paul and Pauline. Linda Dion has since moved to her home in Las Vegas to support the musician.

Stiff person syndrome is extremely rare

Stiff person syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that leads to uncontrollable muscle spasms, particularly in the trunk.

Only one in a million people are affected. The cause is often an autoimmune reaction of the body against an enzyme that is necessary for the normal excitation of the muscles.
