The Grammys are being awarded for the 65th time this year, with 24-year-old Steve Lacy among those taking part. Can he prevail against Adele, Beyoncé and ABBA for "Single of the Year"? All nominees at a glance.

Although the dream factory is constantly awarding prizes throughout the year, the Grammy remains one of the four big ones for the music industry - alongside the Emmy (TV), Oscar (film) and Tony (theater).

With 91 categories in 28 fields of the industry, the Grammys honor the most successful, most creative, simply the brightest minds in the business.

And here are the artists nominated in the four main categories:

Single of the Year

  • "Don't Shut Me Down", ABBA
  • "Easy On Me", Adele
  • "Break My Soul", Beyoncé
  • "Good Morning Gorgeous", Mary J. Blige
  • "You and Me on the Rock", Brandi Carlile with Lucius
  • "Woman", Doja Cat
  • "Bad Habit", Steve Lacy
  • "The Heart Part 5", Kendrick Lamar
  • "About Damn Time", Lizzo
  • "As It Was", Harry Styles

The criteria for "Record of the Year" have been the same since 1959. The award is intended to recognize performers, producers and sound engineers who have made a particularly high-quality recording in the past year.

Commercial success plays only a marginal role, but is ultimately included in the assessment.

This is because record companies are also allowed to vote for artists. The rest of the voting is done by the Grammy Academy itself.

"Song of the Year" is not the same as "Single of the Year"

The next category is "Song of the Year", which at first glance appears to be a copy of "Single of the Year".

However, by definition, "Song of the Year" is awarded "only to the composers and not the performers".

Song of the year

  • "Abcdefu", Gayle
  • "About Damn Time", Lizzo
  • "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)", Taylor Swift
  • "As It Was", Harry Styles
  • "Bad Habit", Steve Lacy
  • "Break My Soul", Beyoncé
  • "Easy On Me", Adele
  • "God Did", DJ Khaled with Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend
  • "The Heart Part 5", Kendrick Lamar
  • "Just Like That", Bonnie Raitt

Of course, both awards are coveted, especially if you are nominated as a composer. But when your entire album is honored with a Grammy, your years of work are confirmed with the golden statuette. In this category, for example, the old masters of ABBA are up against newcomer Lizzo.

Album of the year

  • "Voyage", ABBA
  • "30", Adele
  • "Un verano sin ti", Bad Bunny
  • "Renaissance", Beyoncé
  • "Good Morning Gorgeous", Mary J. Blige
  • "In These Silent Days", Brandi Carlile
  • "Music of the Spheres", Coldplay
  • "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers", Kendrick Lamar
  • "Special", Lizzo
  • "Harry's House", Harry Styles

New musical talents are springing up every day, and the Grammys are no exception. As every year, the last main category consists of "Best New Artist".

Best New Artist

  • Anitta
  • Omar Apollo
  • Domi & JD Beck
  • Muni Long
  • Samara Joy
  • Latto
  • Måneskin
  • Tobe Nwigwe
  • Molly Tuttle
  • Wet Leg

Since music consists of countless styles, they all have to be represented - which is why the Grammys have over 90 categories.

This means that there are some duplicates: Adele, for example, is nominated for "Single of the Year", "Song of the Year" and "Best Pop Solo Performance" - all for her song "Easy On Me". That alone gives her the chance to win three Grammys.

In addition to the pop category, there are also dance/electronic, country, rap, R'n'B, gospel, Latin and jazz. They all have a chance of winning "Song of the Year", but "only" in their respective genre.

For rock music, it looks like this this year:

Best Rock Performance

  • "So Happy It Hurts", Bryan Adams
  • "Old Man", Beck
  • "Wild Child", Black Keys
  • "Broken Horses", Brandi Carlile
  • "Crawl!", Idles
  • "Patient Number 9", Ozzy Osbourne with Jeff Beck
  • "Holiday", Turnstile
