"Despite the strongly formal, minimalist aesthetics reminiscent of a theater stage, the film succeeds in creating an impressive closeness to the characters," said the jury, explaining its decision.
This meant that "Bilder im Kopf" prevailed against six other films. In her film, Camizzi talks to her father in a white room. He came to Switzerland from Sicily as a child and has been living with a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia for 30 years.
The aim of the prize is to recognize a first or second work that can "implement important themes for the community and anticipate the forms and styles of tomorrow's art", Niccolò Castelli, artistic director of the Film Festival, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Saturday.
