Television Already over 50 million views for "The Perfect Couple"

The star-studded mini-series "A New Summer" - original title "The Perfect Couple" - is becoming a Netflix fall hit. The six-part series starring Dakota Fanning and Nicole Kidman has already been viewed 52.6 million times worldwide within two and a half weeks.

In the past week (September 16 to 22), 10.4 million views were registered, as Netflix announced. So-called views are hours watched divided by the total running time - in this case a good five hours.

The series by Danish Oscar winner Susanne Bier ("In a Better World" (original title: Hævnen)) was launched on the streaming service's program on 5 September. Bier also directed the 2018 Netflix hit film "Bird Box" with Sandra Bullock.

Kidman plays the super-rich bestselling author Greer Garrison Winbury in the series. Together with her husband Tag Winbury (Liev Schreiber), she wants to organize the wedding of her son Benji and Amelia (Billy Howle and Eve Hewson).

Hatred, jealousy, spurned love and greed for money

One by one, the guests arrive at the Winburys' luxurious country estate on the high-society island of Nantucket. Everything seems to be going well, but the night before the wedding, a murder occurs and throws all the plans out of kilter. Was it hatred, jealousy, spurned love, greed for money - or just an accident? And above all, who did it?

Susanne Bier has produced the six-part series in a tricky and exciting way. Kidman shines in the role of the luxury-spoiled Greer, who arranges her marriage, her job and her family life according to her own rules, but is also fed up with it. Her older son Thomas is played by Jack Reynor, whose pregnant wife is played by Dakota Fanning. The cast also includes Meghann Fahy, Ishaan Khattar, Mia Isaac and French actress Isabelle Adjani.
