Ski fans in Killington are left breathless in the second run: ski dominator Mikaela Shiffrin crashes as the leader in the steep slope and comes to a halt. The all-clear was given late on Saturday evening.

Mikaela Shiffrin misses her first chance to break the magic mark of 100 World Cup victories in the giant slalom in Killington. The American, who was leading at half-time, was eliminated in the second run.

She crashed in the steep slope shortly before the end, crashed into the safety nets and remained down. TV pictures show that the 29-year-old is being looked after after the fall and is able to move. There was no further information about Shiffrin's state of health for a long time until she took to social media late on Saturday evening.

"There is no cause for great concern. I just can't move completely," says the American with a smile. "I'm sorry, did I scare you all. Thank you for your support. All the scans look good so far." However, Shiffrin will have to miss Sunday's slalom.

Camille Rast makes it onto the podium again

Sara Hector secured victory, her sixth in the World Cup, on Saturday. The 32-year-old Swede triumphed on the American east coast, 0.54 seconds ahead of Croatia's Zrinka Ljutic.

Camille Rast came third. The 25-year-old from Valais, who finished third in the slalom in Gurgl, Austria, for the first time ever in the World Cup a week ago, doubled up at the first opportunity. Rast has never finished higher than 7th in a World Cup giant slalom before (end of December 2021 in Lienz, Austria).

In addition to Rast, there were World Cup points for four other Swiss women in the state of Vermont: 12th Wendy Holdener, 13th Lara Gut-Behrami, 22nd Simone Wild and 25th Michelle Gisin.

"It breaks everyone's heart here"

The award ceremony in the finish area in Killington was very subdued after Shiffrin's fall. The victory felt wonderful, said winner Hector in an interview, but added: "At the same time, it's so sad to see Mikaela fall like that. It breaks my heart and everyone's heart here."

Hector continued: "I hope she didn't hurt herself at all and comes back strong on the skis."

After her fall, the US-American was attended to at the scene of the accident and finally brought to the finish line on a rescue sled.
