Further Swiss successes at the Short Course World Championships in Budapest have yet to materialize. Roman Mityukov failed in the preliminary heat of the 100 m crawl, as did Louis Droupy in the 100 m breaststroke.
Mityukov finished fourth in his preliminary heat in 48.27 seconds. The 24-year-old from Geneva would have needed a time of 46.89 seconds to reach the semi-finals. On Sunday, Mityukov will be competing in his showpiece discipline, the 200m backstroke, in which he won Olympic bronze in Paris last summer.
Droupy also clearly missed out on the semi-finals. In his preliminary heat, the man from Vaud clocked 59.33 seconds, well above his Swiss record of 58.27, which he set in Sursee in November. The 23-year-old, who is taking part in his first World Championships, will be competing in the 50 and 200 m breaststroke on Friday and Saturday.
On Wednesday evening, the 50 m dolphin final will be a highlight for Switzerland. Noè Ponti is the favorite after improving his own world record in the semi-final on Tuesday.
