Another fan tries to get onto the pitch to join the players. In an attempt to prevent this, a steward caught the Spanish captain Morata on the leg.
A streaker caused a painful collision between a steward and Spanish captain Álvaro Morata immediately after the European Championship semi-final between Spain and France. The man ran towards the cheering players after Spain's 2:1 win in Munich on Tuesday evening.
A steward of the Spanish team tried to intervene and caught Morata on the leg from behind. The 31-year-old's knee was visibly in pain as he celebrated afterwards and he was hugged by team-mates.
"That was painful"
"He collided with one of our security guards. That was painful," Morata's team-mate Rodri later said. "But I don't think it's that bad." Coach Luis de la Fuente also did not expect the incident to have more serious consequences for his captain, who is being traded to AC Milan. "But we'll have to wait and see tomorrow," he said late on Tuesday evening. Team doctor Oscar Luis Celeda confirmed that Morata had suffered a knee injury.
Selfie hunters a nuisance at the European Championships
A streaker had already made his way onto the pitch during the game. Apparently to take a photo on his cell phone with French star player Kylian Mbappé.
A scene similar to Morata's occurred during the match between Portugal and Turkey, when striker Gonçalo Ramos was rudely confronted by uninvited guests on the pitch. After the final whistle, the 23-year-old from Paris Saint-Germain was knocked over by a steward who slipped and ran after a fan.
