In a thrilling Bundesliga classic, Bayern come back into the game late on at BVB. Jamal Musiala scored again with his head. Munich have another star player to worry about.

Exceptional footballer Jamal Musiala has saved FC Bayern Munich's unbeaten streak in a thrilling Bundesliga classic against Borussia Dortmund. With his header in the 85th minute to make it 1:1 (0:1), the international gave the leaders at least a point against their eternal rivals. The draw allowed coach Vincent Kompany's side to defend their ten-point lead over fifth-placed BVB.

Jamie Gittens (27) had given the committed hosts the lead with a dream goal. 81,365 spectators in the sold-out Dortmund stadium saw an evenly-matched and atmospheric showdown between the German football giants, in which Bayern had to cope with a potentially serious setback in terms of personnel: super striker Harry Kane was substituted in the first half due to injury - and in just three days' time, FCB will face the next big match in the DFB Cup against Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern get off to a good start

Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin had called for "courage" from his team before the game. However, Munich got off to the better start. The visitors put BVB under pressure early on in the build-up to the game, repeatedly provoking inaccuracies from Dortmund. As early as the 2nd minute, Julian Ryerson had to make up for a mistake by team-mate Marcel Sabitzer in the greatest of emergencies. Shortly afterwards, Leroy Sané tested Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel with a powerful shot from distance.

The hosts, who were missing playmaker Julian Brandt through injury, initially did little in attack. The Bayern defense blocked the first attempt by Serhou Guirassy, who was making his comeback into the starting eleven (22'). Dortmund, who had been plagued by injuries recently, suffered another setback early on: central defender Waldemar Anton had to come off. He was replaced by ex-Bayern professional Niklas Süle, who made his first appearance in over a month due to injury.

Gittens with a brilliant individual move

However, the Westphalians were not shocked by their next loss - on the contrary. BVB got into the game better and better, held their own in the duels and took the lead with an outstanding individual move. Gittens made Konrad Laimer look very old in a running duel. The winger moved into the penalty area from the left and beat Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal with a precise shot into the top right-hand corner.

And it got even worse for Munich: Suddenly top scorer Kane was on the floor. The exceptional attacker also had to leave the pitch injured. Thomas Müller, who came on as a substitute for the Englishman, had his first chance shortly after coming on, but could not get enough pressure on his header.

Goal chances on both sides

Shortly after the break, the Munich native should have equalized. However, Müller did not shoot well enough in front of Kobel. Gittens missed the 2:0 virtually on the counter-attack.

Bayern had to come - and they did. Because this created gaps to counter-attack, an open exchange of blows developed in phases. Leroy Sané shot past the goal from a free position. Dortmund's Sabitzer found his master in Neuer during a quick counter-attack.

As the game progressed, the visitors increased their pressure. Kompany's team kept circulating the ball around Dortmund's penalty area. Dortmund initially held out, with the fans in black and yellow loudly celebrating every successful tackle. Five minutes before the end of normal time, however, Bayern managed to score a deserved equalizer. Magic foot Musiala scored - and, as so often recently, with his head. A cross from Michael Olise left the international completely free.
