Agriculture was traditionally an important topic at the fair.
Most of the furniture from the green living room, the canton's special show, has already found buyers.
The Olma in St. Gallen attracted more than 340,000 visitors this year. This is around 10,000 more than the previous year. The organizers of the fair were also highly satisfied in their summary.
The 81st edition of the Swiss Trade Fair for Agriculture and Food had delighted the public far beyond Eastern Switzerland over the course of eleven days, the organizers wrote in a press release on Sunday. 620 exhibitors - 50 more than in 2023 - ensured a colorful festival.
St. Gallen itself was a guest canton at the fair this year. At the Olma presentation under the motto "uf Bsuech dihei" with an oversized green living room on the exhibition grounds, 30 St. Gallen personalities were in the spotlight. A week ago on Saturday, the host canton also presented itself to around 40,000 visitors in the traditional Olma parade with more than 50 subjects.
"The appearance at the Olma promoted exchange among the population and showcased our diversity. That was the aim," wrote the St. Gallen cantonal government in a statement on Sunday.
The St. Gallen city police also drew an overall positive balance. Despite the large number of visitors, there were no major incidents.
According to the police, they had to intervene less often than in the previous year. They were called to eleven physical altercations. The police intervened six times due to aggressive individuals.
However, according to the press release, there were no serious injuries in these incidents. On several occasions, the police also helped drunk people or searched for lost children and returned them to their relatives.
This year's Olma began on October 10 and ended on Sunday evening.
