A revolutionary court in Iran has sentenced the American-Iranian reporter Resa Walisadeh to ten years in prison. According to the judges, he is alleged to have collaborated with the political arch-enemy USA during his work for the news station Radio Farda, as his lawyer Mohamad Aghasi wrote on X.

Walisadeh had worked for several years in Prague for the US-funded station Radio Farda and before that for the US station Voice of America. In March of this year, he returned to Iran after 13 years and was arrested by security forces six months later. Radio Farda confirmed the verdict on its website.
According to Aghasi, his client is in solitary confinement, has no visiting rights and has not even been allowed to meet his lawyer in recent days. Aghasi announced that he would appeal against the verdict.
Several dual nationals are being held in Iranian prisons on various charges, mainly for alleged collaboration or spying for foreign countries. According to critics, they are being used as hostages by the Iranian judiciary to enforce political demands.
