According to military reports, four Israeli army combat groups are still deployed in southern Syria. A brigade combat team is taking action against threats along the border, the Israeli military announced in the evening. It had also confiscated several Syrian army tanks that were no longer in use.

The aim of the Israeli operation was to ensure the safety of the civilian population in neighboring northern Israel.

Other units had discovered a Syrian army outpost with a weapons cache on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon within the buffer zone. They had confiscated mines, explosives and rockets there.

Following the takeover of control by rebels in Syria, Israel's army had deployed troops to the buffer zone between the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and the neighboring country. According to Israeli media reports, the combat troops are also sometimes active outside the buffer zone.

Israel's air force has also massively bombed military facilities in Syria since the fall of Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad. Suspected chemical weapons are also said to have been the target of the attacks.
